Webcams are located close to the meteorological sensors. Both, webcam1 and webcam2, looks over Seville city, and together compose a panoramic view that goes from East (E) to Southeast (SSE). Although MeteoSevilla web pages are updated every 30 minutes, webcam images are updated every 2 minutes (except in summer time, when due to high temperatures, cameras stop working several times a day to avoid the extreme heat).
On the right side of the image you can see, from left to right, the Alamillo bridge, the Olimpic Stadium, and close to the right edge of the image, La Giralda in Seville Cathedral.
Just click on any webcam image to access to the last 24 hours webcam history.

1. Juan Luis Galiardo Theatre
This theatre was opened in the summer of 1995. It was named after the well-known San Roque-born actor Juan Luis Galiardo on 10th February 2001.
The Plaza de Andalucía Square was where part of a British-produced film, The Running Man was filmed in 1963.
The movie, starring Alan Bates and Lee Remick, was directed by Carol Reed. In the past it was known as “The Stop” as it was the place where carriages and later inter-city buses stopped. This square is just as important as the Alameda Square and is a clear indicator of town life. This is the place where the “Santo Encuentro” ceremony (Holy Encounter) is held on Maundy Thursday during Holy Week.
Saint Mary the Crowned Parish Church dates from the 18th century and features Tuscan architecture and Baroque artwork. Once the town had been founded, work began in 1735 on the construction of a church over the foundations of the original Chapel of Saint Roque, built in 1508.
Inside the building the most important feature is the main altar, where the statue of the Patron Saint, Saint Mary the Crowned is venerated along with the images of Saint Sebastian and Saint Joseph. These statues were brought from Gibraltar in 1704 and date back to the 15th century. Amongst the 15th to 17th century statues brought from the Rock, The Holy Burial and The Most Holy Christ of Humility and Patience stand out, each one in their own side chapel. The image of Most Holy Christ of a Happy Death is the work of the San Roque-born sculptor, Luis Ortega Brú. The Baroque style side chapel and the tomb of Jose Cadalso, a poet and soldier from Cadiz who died during the Great Siege in 1782 are both worth mentioning. The church records feature the parish records from Gibraltar, from 1556 until 1704. On the outside, the main entrance and the bell tower stand out. The temple was declared a listed historical building on 30th May 1974.
Plaza de Armas Square (Place of Arms) used to be the Main Square. It used to have a sandy surface and was used as the arena for bull fights. People say that it was where Manuel Ballón “El Africano” invented modern bullfighting, the Red Cape and Sword Technique in 1720.
In 1846 the name of the square was changed to its present name and flagstones were laid down. The square’s name is thought to derive from a fencing school which was set up here and the pupils practised this sport in the square. This was where the city jail used to be until it was moved to the old Franciscan convent, next to Poet Domingo de Mena Viewpoint in 1847. There is a coat of arms on one of the houses in the square which belonged to a local family called Rendón. In 1775 the pious Diego José de Cádiz stayed at the house when he came to officiate the Lent mass that year
5. Poet Domingo de Mena Viewpoint
Poet Domingo de Mena Viewpoint is popularly known as “The Canons”. This a wonderful vantage point with views of the Rock, the entire Bay of Algeciras and North Africa
There are two 18th century canons which were used during one of the sieges on Gibraltar. From this place in the rearguard during the sieges on Gibraltar signals were made to the troops who were fighting on the isthmus. The present name dates back to the 1970s when the Council named the place after the City’s chronicler at that time. José Domingo de Mena was a poet and the author of “Romances of Gibraltar”. At that time they used to commemorate the Founding of City on the 4th August at this view point
6. General Lacy Street & Coronel Moscoso Street
General Lacy Street and Coronel Moscoso are the two segments of the popularly known as “Malaga Street”. They are the main commercial artery of town life and the urban thoroughfare where all the city’s main public demonstrations and festive parades go along.
General Lacy was a serviceman from San Roque and a War of Independence hero, later executed by a firing squad of Ferdinand VII’s Absolutist supporters. In the corner between Vallecillo Luján and Coronel Moscoso a commemorative plaque is dedicated to those who died executed by firing squad on 27th July 1936, during the Spanish Civil War. Coronel Moscoso, who gives the name to the first segment of the street, was also a serviceman stationed at Diego Salinas Barracks, the Pavía 19 Regiment headquarters and a very important figure of San Roque’s cultural life in the 1920’s. Previously Malaga Street was called “Compañía” (Company)
7. Our Lady of Visitation Chapel
Our Lady of Visitation Chapel dates back to the 18th century. This temple houses the image of the Nazarene recovered from Gibraltar. Amongst the images inside, the statues of Our Lady of Anguish and The Most Blessed Mary of Sorrows, which are paraded during Holy Week, stand out the most.
In the building next door, the Charity Hospital was founded in 1776 by an order of the same name substituting the one in Gibraltar. The sisters’ mission was caring for poor sick people and raising orphans in the whole area. The sisterhood went through hard times during the Great Siege and the French occupation. In 1909 the building was in ruins, but thanks to donations made by local people the parish priest, Manuel Aranda Ureba managed to rebuild it. That very same year the Charity Sisters returned to run the hospital and were substituted by the “Buen Consejo” Franciscan nuns in 1913. The nuns left in September 2001.
8. Saint Roque & the Dog Statue
It is the work of Victor Quintanilla and was placed in Cuatro Vientos in 1998. The Dog from San Roque is called “Melampo” and according to the famous Spanish saying Ramón Ramírez was the one who cut its tail off. There are several legends about the tailless dog. The most well-known one dates back to 1885, coinciding with one of the plague epidemics that devastated the region. People went to the Saint Roque chapel to pray and obtain powder the folk healer sold. This “magical” product was made of an elaborated mixture of ingredients, which included dog tail shavings. Business was so good that the dog was left tailless.
9. Pinar del Rey Pine Woods
This forest dates back to 1800 when the powerful Spanish Navy planted trees here to supply timber to build warships.
The hills and land in the borough were granted to the City of Gibraltar by the Catholic Monarchs in the 16th century, becoming part of San Roque as the heir of the usurped city in the 18th century. An interesting historical fact worth emphasizing is that The Royal Calpe Hunt from Gibraltar used to organise foxhunts in the 19th century in this area, amongst many other locations in the borough and the rest of the Gibraltar Area.
10. The Bull Ring
The Bull Ring, which was built in 1850, is the second oldest in the province of Cadiz and one of the oldest ones in Andalusia.
The Bull Ring is one of the only ones without a “callejón”, an alleyway and barrier behind which the matador takes refuge. It is said that the reason why it was not built was that the architect, a local mathematics teacher, made a mistake with his calculations and there was not enough room for one. Two bullfights were planned for two matadors, Cayetano Sanz and Francisco Vilches “Llilly”. The first one took place on 20th August 1853. During a series of bullfights held in 1885 a member of the matador’s support team, Mariano “El Tornero” was gored in the Bull Ring and later died from his wounds. In 1946 the Mexican apprentice bullfighter was also mortally wounded in the arena, dying in hospital shortly afterwards. The building became Council property in December 1993. In 2002 the Bullfighting Museum was inaugurated. The exhibit offers a large collection of local bullfighting memorablilia and documentation about the history of bullfighting in San Roque
11. Saint Roque Shrine
The new Saint Roque Chapel was erected in 1801 and has neoclassical architecture. The shrine houses a statue of Saint Roque.
In the fourth week of April the Saint Roque Procession is held, when people carry the image of Saint Roque on a float. The statue is taken from this temple to the Pinar del Rey Pine Woods and vice versa. During the Spanish War of Independence the temple was sacked by the Napoleonic troops and the statue of the Saint was destroyed. This image was replaced in 1833 by another one donated by a captain from San Roque called Juan Rojas, who was stationed in Seville. At the time this city was suffering from a cholera epidemic, so Captain Juan Rojas vowed to make the effigy if he and all of his family recovered from the disease. That is what happened and the new image of Saint Roque was placed in this popular chapel.
San Felipe Street is the steep road between the Alameda Square and the Church Square. The street stands out due to its impressive and tidy façades with iron wrought bars on windows and decorative balconies adorned with flowers and plants, not to mention typical Andalusian patios.
The street takes its name from the old 18th Century San Felipe Neri chapel. During most of the 19th Century it was the Virgin of Dolores Brotherhood headquarters, a female guild. This temple was in ruins in the early 20th Century and was demolished in the late 1950s. In 1900 Domingo Tudela Manzorro, a local police officer died after being gored by a bull during the Toro del Aguardiente Bull Run. The event was re-established in 1979 by the Council following the demise of the Franco regime. The Liberal general Rafael Riego marched up the hill in 1820 when he rebelled against Absolutism. It was also here where the famous “Riego” anthem was first heard, a symbol of the fight for freedom, which was later adopted by the Republicans. This is also where the Leisure Casino was located, founded in 1876. It was also the first place in the town to have a telephone exchange. The prize-winning actor Juan Luis Galiardo was born at number ten. The official route for the Magna Procession of the Holy Death is held in this street on Good Friday.
The Governor’s Palace has neoclassical civil architecture and dates from the 18th century. It was the Military Command Headquarters for Spanish forces in the Gibraltar area until the 19th century and is said to have been where many attacks during the sieges on the Rock were planned.
Nowadays it is home to the Luis Ortega Bru Borough Cultural Foundation. At first this building was known as Berlanga’s House because Juan Berlanga Avilés, Lieutenant General of the Royal Army and his wife María Martínez España purchased the house from Juan Arcadio and his wife María Machado on 6th September 1768. It is located in the Church Square, previously known as Vegetable Square due to the fact it used to be the market place. The main façade is in Rubín de Celis Street. The property was declared a listed historical building on 2nd March 1972.
At present the building houses two museums (Carteya Archaeological Museum and Luis Ortega Brú Sculpture and Iconography Museum), the “Luis Ortega Brú” Municipal Art Gallery with travelling exhibitions, two permanent painting halls (by Daniel Castilla Zurita and José Cruz Herrera), as well as the Standard of Gibraltar (1502), embroidered by Juana la Loca and The Exodus, a bas-relief by the San Roque-born sculptor Luis Ortega Brú depicting the Spanish Gibraltarians leaving the Rock in 1704.
